Most public discussions relating to petroleum in America are focused on gasoline and diesel fuel consumption. However, the demand for lubricating oil in America will reach approximately 10,2 billion liters by 2008.
Oil Purification Systems, Inc. provides technology that can save industries billions of dollars each year, reduce the environmental impact of waste oil disposal, and cut domestic oil consumption by 7,6 billion liters per year.
Financial Impact
Trucks, buses, construction equipment, power generators and other commercial vehicles typically spend between $500 and $1,000 per year on oil changes. The OPS-1 System cuts that cost by about 80% with a return on investment in 6-10 months. The compact, lightweight, two-stage design provides companies with a low cost solution to rising oil maintenance costs.
Environmental Impact
Lubricating oil, unlike fuels, must be disposed of when it becomes contaminated. The collection and disposal of waste oil creates significant problems:
1. The EPA estimates two hundred million gallons of used oil are improperly disposed of each year.
2. The burden to capture, reclaim, or dispose of waste oil impacts the bottom line of US industry and consumers on every type of goods and services.
3. Even when disposed of properly, waste oil is toxic and adds to the overall problem of lack of space for waste disposal.
FACTS:
• Because of the many special additives used in the production of motor oil for today’s high performance engines, as well as the contaminants picked up in use through the engine, used oil is more environmentaly damaging than crude oil. (Florida EPA)
• One gallon of oil can render one million gallons of fresh water undrinkable. (US EPA)
• Combustion by-products such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) have been identified as having the potential to cause cancers. (Rose Foundation)
Oil Consumption Impact
Decreasing America’s dependence on oil is a key national goal as stated by President Bush in his State of the Union speech. The decrease in oil changes by 80% would decrease national consumption by about 2 billion barrels per year. Global consumption would be cut by many times that amount.
The good news is that technology not only exists but is in wide spread use to achieve all of these goals. The OPS-1 patented system is a two stage on-board refiner that continuously removes both the solid and liquid contaminants from the oil, thus allowing the engine to run with clean oil 100% of the time thereby also increasing engine life.

Other oil related facts from the. (EPA)
•The damage used oil causes comes from mismanagement.
•Re-refining used oil takes only about one-third the energy of refining crude oil to lubricant quality.
•If all used oil improperly disposed of by do-it-yourselfers were recycled, it could produce enough energy to power 360,000 homes each year or could provide 96 million quarts of high quality motor oil.
•One gallon of used oil used as fuel contains about 140,000 Btu of energy.
•A gallon of used oil from a single oil change can ruin a million gallons of fresh water — a years supply for 50 people.
•Concentrations of 50 to 100 parts per million (ppm) of used oil can foul sewage treatment processes.
•Films of oil on the surface of water prevent the replenishment of dissolved oxygen, impair photosynthetic processes, and block sunlight.
•Oil dumped onto land reduces soil productivity.
•Toxic effects of used oil on freshwater and marine organisms vary, but significant longterm effects have been found at concentrations of 310 ppm in several freshwater fish species and as low as 1 ppm in marine life forms.
•Publicity about used oil recycling can triple do-it-yourselfer participation!
